Alternative Education

Alternative education is also known as non-traditional education, meaning that it is a system of teaching that does not respect traditional methods of teaching. The main philosophy of this system and of schools that have been implementing programs based on it is one main idea: the child must have free will and nothing should be imposed on him. Alternative education focuses on small classes, no more than 10 – 15 children, and on open and close relationships between the teacher and its students.

The whole alternative education idea is based on the sense of community. Parents who want their children to benefit from homeschooling or alternative schooling should know that this system of teaching will help their kids develop a very strong sense of community. They will learn to be more attentive to the needs of people around them, to listen more, help others and generally work towards the common good. More and more parents today choose this form of education for their children because they want to run away from public schooling systems which are coercive and sometimes very discriminatory.

Alternative schooling is also chosen for students who are at risk, come for abandoned families, dropped out of mainstream forms of schooling or are working towards drug and alcohol prevention. The non-traditional education system is very friendly and open to people from all social backgrounds. People who choose it for their children have a strong belief that conventional and mainstream education systems are somehow influencing their children’s approach towards life. They want their kids to grow in a libertarian system that will help them make their own decision and learn though experience and curiosity, and not by simply memorizing some facts from a book.

Alternative education is a great solution for people who want their children to experience a different schooling environment.
