Alternative Education School
Alternative education schools are places where children can be schooled in a different environment, much different than the one of public schooling. An alternative school has an educational curricula and teaching methods that are nontraditional. For example, they have a more flexible program so that children can focus more on their passions and abilities. Patients who are interested in sending their children to an non-traditional school should know that there are some big names in the American alternative system like The Forest School, Raw Learning, Manhattan Free School, The Community Green, Open Doors Center and many more.
The big advantage of an alternative education school is that they accept students from all kinds of environments and don’t discriminate over race, national origin and religious views. They don’t offer benefits for some students because all of them are treated equal. Also, they don’t discriminate by offering financial advantages to some because these centers are private, so all students have to pay. The main philosophy of alternative schools is that they treat their students as individuals with free will and base their education programs on curiosity and innovation. Children who go to these schools have the liberty of choosing what they want to learn and nothing is imposed on them.
Every alternative education school have a non-coercive policy. This is the main thing that separates them from schools in the public system. While public system school have a strict curricula with classes and topics that are imposed on their students, alternative programs and school leave these decisions to be made by children and their parents. For example, the Open Doors Center has a motto that gives power to imagination over knowledge. Children have the freedom to explore, discover in an environment that is not suffocating them with too many facts. At alternative schools all over the US, children learn by doing.
