Invitation and Overview:
You are cordially invited to the
Alternative Education Resource Organization’s
fifth annual AERO conference. For the fifth year
in a row the AERO conference will bring together
educators, students, parents, and many others
interested and/or involved in educational
alternatives from around the U.S., Canada, and the
world (see our Interesting
Facts page for more info). From Public
Alternative to Unschooling we will have a many
educational alternatives represented (some more
examples include: Montessori, Waldorf, Steiner,
Choice, Democratic, Homeschool, Open, Charter,
Free, Sudbury, Holistic, Virtual, Magnet,
Early Childhood, Reggio Emilia, Indigo,
Krishnamurti, Quaker, Libertarian, Independent,
Progressive, Community, Cooperative, and many
more!).
This year’s conference theme is “Moving from Ideas
to Practice," but even with the theme, the conference
will in no way be limited to just that. Workshops
and presentations will be made on a wide range of
topics. In fact, there will be open workshop time
throughout the conference where workshops,
presentations, and special events will be entirely
up to the attendees to organize! Last year we had
over 80 unique workshops and
presentations run by the attendees. This year we
fully expect to match and possibly eclipse that
number! A complete listing of workshops that
have already been scheduled can be found on our
Workshops page and our
complete listing of workshops from last year can
be found on our
Previous Workshops page.
This year we will have several wonderful keynote
speakers: Donna
Barker, Matt Hern, Mary Leue, Deborah Meier,
Lindsey Rogowski & Wesley Clark,
and Khalif Williams. Be
sure to check out our list of
previous keynote
speakers to see who's already spoken at the
conference. We will also have a
number of special events including documentaries,
panel discussions, workshop series, featured workshops, plenty
of entertainment throughout, and much, much more!
All keynote talks and presentations will take
place in the beautiful Julia Howard Bush Memorial
Center at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York
which is beautifully adorned with Tiffany stained
glass windows (the most per square mile in the
world in fact!).
Simply put, with the success of last year’s forth
annual conference and the dire need for change in
the education system, the stage has been set for
this year’s conference to have
quite a
far-reaching effect.
Visit our Attendee Comments
page for reactions from our previous
conferences.
About the Host:
The Alternative Education Resource Organization
(AERO) was founded in 1989 by education expert
Jerry Mintz to advance learner-centered
approaches to education. AERO is a part of the
School of Living, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. AERO
is considered by many to be the primary hub of
communications and support for educational
alternatives around the world.
AERO provides information, resources and
guidance to families, schools and organizations
regarding their educational choices. AERO
disseminates information, both nationally and
internationally, on topics such as:
homeschooling, public and private alternative
schools, and charter schools. AERO's long-term
goal is to become a more effective catalyst for
educational change by providing books, dvds,
magazines, online services and classes,
consultations, support groups, and
organizational information and seminars in the
field of alternative education.
